Music Hall advertising

In Turkish entertainment life, music hall culture was very common in the past. It is also continues today but the 60's and 70's was the climax of that type of nightlife. Of course those music halls were the loyal clients of the Turkish advertising agencies. They were promoted in newspapers very often. And also those type of ads used very large advertisement spaces. They were visually strong and as much as highest quality in the conditions of its period. It was very interesting culture in that time. There were highly famous singers like Müzeyyen Senar and Zeki Müren but also there was movie stars and comedians also participate in shows of music hall. If there is research about the Turkish advertising history, music hall ads should be part of it.

Celebrity using in newspaper advertising

I think using celebrities in any kind of advertising is strongest way of creating attention on consumer. In Turkey it wasn't used very often at first. The first celebrity supported advertising that I saw in archives was in 1950. It was Siemens radio ad with very popular local singer Müzeyyen Senar. It still continues today but 70’s were the prime of the celebrity branding in Turkey. Many popular artists were participated in ads. Using celebrities in ads is widely regarded as one of the easiest ways of sell a product. Today it is very often and we can understand that not every celebrity uses the product he or she promotes. But in the past consumer was more unconscious then today which make celebrity supported ads stronger. There* is a research about celebrity endorsements in advertising.

Foreign Companies in Turkey-Welcome to Coca Cola

Coca-Cola is unarguable one of the biggest brands in the history of the world. Also one of the finest advertisers. They had very successful history in Turkey which was started in 1964 with the 3, 5 million dollar investment of IMSA. They started the factory in the Istanbul which is the 1916 th factory in total. And it’s also the first time they started to publish their ads in newspapers. Their first slogan was "World famous Coca-Cola is now in our country”. They made lotteries and many types of different campaigns until today. Coca-Cola is still one of the most active advertisers in Turkish market.

Late 60's Advertising Layout-Rise of the Photograph

First few years of 60's were the not brightest times for country and also for advertising sector. But with second half of decade advertising had a recovery. There were attempts of photograph using in ads in 50's but as I analyzed here it was not the successful according to that years print technologies. Still black and white, but in last few years of 60's the photographed ads started to steal a role from illustrated ones first time in history. Photo quality is still not great as nowadays, but it’s evolving and I think it’s enough to overtake illustration which has maybe little lack of realism in the eyes of consumer.
